As part of the Society of Biblical Literatures The New Testament in the GreekFathers series this book examines the textual affinities of Epiphanius ofSalamis in Acts the Catholic Epistles and the Pauline Epistles. Devisingcareful criteria for selecting quotations and following established criteriafor analyzing patristic data Osburn reverses the commonly accepted notion thatEpiphanius systematically reflects an early form of the Byzantine text. Whilehis text of the Catholic Epistles was likely Byzantine in character the Greektext of Acts and the Pauline Epistles used by Epiphanius was common in theEastern Mediterranean during the fourth century C.E. and is similar to theLater Egyptian textform found in Codex Alexandrinus and Codex Ephraemirescriptus.
