In de dagelijkse praktijk op je werkplek krijg je te maken met patiënten en cliënten die zich melden met een diversiteit aan klachten en problemen. Dit kan zowel telefonisch als aan de balie zijn. Omdat jij vaak het eerste contact bent is het aan jou om te besluiten hoe deze patiënt/ cliënt verder geholpen gaat worden. Moet er een afspraak gepland worden of kun je het misschien zelf wel af zonder tussenkomst van de arts? En als er een afspraak gepland moet worden, moet dit dan op korte termijn of kan het wel even wachten. Patiënten vinden vaak dat ze snel geholpen moeten worden. Maar is dit wel zo? Zijn er geen dringender zaken en kan deze patiënt niet even wachten. Triage betekent in het Frans letterlijk: sorteren of rangeren. In de medische praktijk komt dit neer op juist dit indelen van patiënten. Prioriteiten stellen in de (meestal medische) hulpvraag. Triage kan op verschillende plekken plaats vinden maar in dit (werk)boekje richten wij ons vooral op; huisartsenpraktijken,gezondheidscentra, huisartsenpost, spoedpost, zorginstelling en andere zorg-verlenende instanties. «
