The somatotropic axis is one of the major hormonal systems regulating postnatalgrowth in mammals. It interacts with the central nervous system on severallevels. Growth hormone GH and insulinlike growth factorI IGFI receptorsare expressed in many brain areas including the hippocampus pituitary andhypothalamus.
