The Clementine mission was launched in 1994 as a joint project between NASA and the US Department of Defense. The scientific goals of the mission were to map the Moon and an asteroid by using small, advanced sensors. The lunar part of the mission was a huge success, and a alrge amount of scientific data was collected. The mission gave scientists their first glaobal look at the Moon with both the near and far side being mapped extensively. This atlas is based on the data collected by the Clementine mission, with some additional information from the later Lunar Prospector mission. It covers the entire Moon in 144 lunar astronautical charts, and represents the most complete database of nomenclature in existence, listing virtually all named craters and other features. This is the first atlas to show the entire lunar surface in uniform scale and format. «
