Hanna Dobschiner werd in 1925 in Berlijn geboren. Na de machtsovername door Hitler vluchtte het gezin Dobschiner naar Nederland. Tijdens de bezetting werden eerst haar broers, later haar ouders via Westerbork naar Duitsland getransporteerd, waar zij allen omkwamen. Alleen Hanna wist op wonderbaarlijke wijze de dans te ontspringen.
Na als verpleegster in Amsterdam werkzaam te zijn geweest, reisde zij in 1943 naar het Noorden, onder geleide van ds. B.J. Ader. Zeer orthodox opgevoed, kreeg Hanna op haar onderduikadres, de pastorie van ds. Ader, voor het eerst een Nieuw Testament in handen en dit bracht haar tot geloof in de Christus der Schriften. In dit boek legt zij daarvan een aangrijpend getuigenis af.
De schrijfster woont sinds 1947 in Glasgow, Schotland. Zij is gehuwd en moeder van twee kinderen. Het was aanvankelijk niet haar bedoeling deze geschiedenis te publiceren. Ze schreef dit uitsluitend voor haar kinderen en is pas op aandrang van vrienden tot publicatie (in het Engels) overgegaan. Deze Engelse uitgave is behalve in het Nederlands ook in het Duits, Fins, Frans, Noors, Portugees, Spaans en Zweeds vertaald. «
