Tijdens haar vele reizen naar het Oosten heeft ze altijd een fototoestel en een schetsboek bij zich. Wat haar onderweg treft en boeit, legt ze snel vast en werkt ze later verder uit in gewassen tekeningen, acrylschilderingen of lithografieën. In this first monograph, Nicole Halsberghe provides an overview of her work over the past fifty years. On her many journeys to the East, she always took along a camera and sketchbook. While travelling, she would immediately document anything that caught her eye or fascinated her and would then create wash drawings, acrylic paintings or lithographs based on her notes. In Traces on the Way, we can see how she further abstracts and interprets her subjects and brings them to life. From intimate rooms and train compartments to the vast Japanese landscape. With texts by poet and art critic Johan van Cauwenberge, Prof. em. of Japanese Studies Dr. W.F. Vande Walle, and art historian Paul Kongs.   «
