Hattie and Martyn are a decent hardworking young couple partners with a newbaby bickering over whether they should get married and how to arrange theirlives in a morally sustainable way. Hattie has given up work to look after babyKitty but she is frankly bored by domesticity. Then they meet Agnieszka aPolish woman whos married to a bus driver back home and is sending money backto her old mother and sister. Martyn and Hattie take pity and invite her tolive with them. Hattie eventually succumbs to temptation and asks Agnieszka tobabysit and soon shes back at fulltime work. In fact life is pretty much asit was before the baby came along except the house is cleaner and betterorganised and shes galloping ahead in her career. Soon Hattie succumbs to temptation and asks Agnieszka to babysit their daughter Kitty and in no time at all shes back in fulltime work. In fact life is pretty much as it was before the baby came along except the house is cleaner and better organized thanks to modest docile Agnieszka who is prepared to work for a pittance and is not too pretty for comfort. But soon things begin to sour Martyn and Agnieszka grow closer and it occurs to Hattie that baby Kitty given a choice would now choose Agnieszka over her. And the downward spiral continues visas a marriage of convenience and even her own friends and family conspire to force Hattie out of her home and her partners bed... «
