The foundation of many of the earliest Christians salvation conceptions is thenotion of the corporate unity between Christ and the believers. The essentialrole that the notion of corporate identity plays is evident in varioussalvation contexts. This study examines four different contexts or expressionsin which the earliest believers soteriological interpretation of Jesus deathand resurrection finds expression namely Pauls understanding and usage ofthe dying for and surrender formulas his conception of the believerseschatological resurrection and his understanding of the Lords Supper. On thebasis of this investigation it becomes evident that the corporateunderstanding that Christian believers are united with Christ is one of theessential foundations of the earliest believers conception of salvation.Pauls essential notion of salvation is that of participation. Because of theirunity with Christ the believers are conceived by Paul as sharing orparticipating in Christs fate including both his death and his resurrection. «
