The great archievement of Belgian artist Piet Stockmans 1940 is that he has been able to emancipate porcelain and elevate it to the status of a purely artistic means of expression. At first he defunctionalised tableware Next after an intensive study of the material he had chosen as his medium he created porcelain installations and applied them to walls and floors. Finally he introduced the human body in his work. Stockmans is an artist who is continually breaking new ground who is able to knead his material with great virtuosity and sensitivity into eversurprising works of art.
