Buitenlanders kijken met verbazing naar de klimaatverandering in Nederland. Nederlanders zelf ook. Niet lang geleden leek hun land een multicultureel paradijs. Maar in een mum van tijd hebben de populisten de politieke agenda bepaald. Geert Wilders geeft nu zelfs steun aan een minderheidskabinet, dit tot verdriet van de oude politieke elite. Inclusief het progressieve staatshoofd, Koning Beatrix. Tegen deze achtergrond geeft dit boekje uitleg over de het reilen en zeilen van het Nederlandse staatsbestel, in het bijzonder rond de kabinetsformatie. Hoe democratisch is dat eigenlijk? Hoe is het mogelijk dat de koningin daarin zo’n grote rol speelt? Kunnen we hier spreken van een democratisch gat?

But today populists are dominating politics and media. Much to the chagrin of the old political elite, including the progressive Head of State, Queen Beatrix.
