Graham Roberts and Dorota Ostrowska radically rethink European cinemas postwar history from the perspective of televisions impact on the culture ofcinemas production distribution consumption and reception. In everyEuropean country television has transformed the economic technological andaesthetic terms of cinema production. Its growing popularity has drasticallyreshaped cinemas audiences and forced governments to introduce policies toregulate the interaction between cinema and television. Cinematic criticism hasbeen slow to address the impact of television but this study recognizes itsinfluence and offers a more authentic and richer history of European cinemas. «
