The volume is presented to Professor C.H.W. Brekelmans in celebration of his75th birthday. The editors were of the opinion that there could be no betterway to honour Chris Brekelmans than with a collection of articles treating theDeuteronomic traditions found in the Book of Deuteronomy as well as in thesocalled Tertrateuch and Deuteronomistic History. In the past years arenewed impetus has been given to the development of Deuteronomic Studies. Thepresent Festschrift aims at contributing to the current debate which has aspecial interest in methodological questions regarding the identification andcharacterization of Deuteronomistic texts in the aforementioned complexes ofOld Testament writings. The volume is divided into four sections. The firstsection offers a collection of articles which focus on the Book of Deuteronomyitself. The second section contains contributions dealing with DeuteronomicHistory. The third section is devoted to the relationship between theDeuteronomic in the largest sense of the word traditions and theTetrateuch. The fourth and final section presents a collection of articles on anumber of important issues each of which offers its own direct or indirectcontribution to the study of the Deuteronomistic literature and itsrelationship to the remaining texts of the Old Testament Peeters 1997 «
