Culturele diversiteit betreft verschillen tussen groepen, in belevingen, in vanzelfsprekendheden en in levenswijze. Sommige verschillen zijn zichtbaar en evident, andere verborgen en onverwacht - en hetzelfde geldt voor overeenkomsten. Over culturele diversiteit wordt veel gesproken, maar meestal in abstracto, want het is moeilijk zich een beeld te vormen van wat diversiteit eigenlijk inhoudt en betekent.In dit boek laat Louk Hagendoorn zien in welke opzichten culturen en groepen kunnen verschillen en overeenkomen - en wat de consequenties daarvan kunnen zijn voor de verhoudingen met andere groepen. Naast gedrag en beleving, wordt ingegaan op groepsvorming, status, tegenstellingen en wederzijdse aanpassing. Elk onderwerp wordt behandeld aan de hand van een klassiek onderzoek of enkele typerende studies, zodat de kern van het probleem vlug duidelijk wordt. Het boek is toegankelijk geschreven en kan gelezen worden zonder uitgebreide voorkennis op het terrein van de sociale wetenschappen, de psychologie of antropologie.
