G.H. Hardys text is a good single volume refresher course for work in analysisand more advanced algebra including number theory. Not quite as modern asBirkhoff and MacLanes text or Manes work this volume forms theunderpinnings of both works. If you have a good understanding of thepreliminary work required in algebra and geometry Hardy can be read directlyand with pleasure. If you have a desire to understand the basis of what ispresented in most firstyear calculus texts then Hardys text is for you. «
