A promising artist has been garrotted on the night of her first major showing. It's a strange case; there's no obvious motive. Milo Sturgis, LAPD detective, asks psychologist Alex Delaware for assistance.

The lurid staging of the murder scene suggests to Alex that a serial killer is at work and he compares notes with Milo's associates Petra Connor and eric Stahl. They are investigating the murder of Baby Boy Lee, a blues guitarist. The link between the two murders is the shadowy presence of a fanzine writer and Alex begins to expect that they're dealing with a celebrity stalker - one who's made murder their own art form. «
