Book
The present book is based on the view that cognitive skills are best acquiredby solving challenging nonstandard probability problems. The authors ownexperience both in learning and in teaching is that challenging problemsoften provide more and longer lasting inductive insights than plainstyledeductions from general concepts. Problems help to develop and to sharpen ourintuition for important probabilistical concepts and tools such asconditionaing or firststep analyses. Many puzzles and problems presented hereare either new within a problem solving context although as topics infundamental research they are of course long known or are variations ofclassical problems which follow directly from elementary concepts. A smallnumber of particularly instructive problems is taken from previous sourceswhich in this case are generally given. TOCPreface. Notation andTerminology. Problems. Hints. Solutions. References.
